Health & Wellness Ministry

This Committee creates opportunities to connect with one another around the holistic concept of "Health," with the understanding that God made us so that mind, body, and spirit are interconnected and we are called to care for one another's physical, social and spiritual well-beings.

We have a variety of ministries to promote health and wellness across our congregation including Shawl Ministry, Healing services, a library of self-help & wellness books and various trainings. If you are interested in learning more or joining this ministry, please contact the office at 401-635-8472 or office@ucclittlecompton.org.

Shawl Ministry

Our active shawl ministry group meets weekly in the Parlor (Through the front entrance of the church, straight down the hallway on the ground floor, on the left ) for knitting, crocheting and conversation.  We create prayer shawls to be distributed to members in need of a blessing.

Healing Services

Our committee partners with the Deacons to offer special healing services that invite people forward for a blessing of healing for mental, physical, or spiritual pain.

End of Life Booklets

Our culture is not very good about talking about death. One of our ministries is to help people begin to plan and prepare for death, aging, and severe illness before the time comes. It is a gift to your family to have this information clearly documented before a crisis. And it is often a powerful and meaningful exercise to record your wishes for your own end of life.

Click here for a brief booklet of current information to share with family and loved ones in the event of illness or death.
Click here for a more in-depth booklet to help you identify your choices about end of life care, and your preferred options for customs and practices that accompany a death.

Library Cart

The committee currently oversees a small library with resources and books on health and spiritual related issue. They are available for borrowing at any time. For more information or for access to the library, contact the church office or come by Sundays after worship.

Opioid Crisis Awareness

We are working to increase awareness about the opioid epidemic in Rhode Island.  We partner with the Prevention Coalition of Newport County to bring information and resources to improve people's chances for recovery, offer support to families affected by this epidemic,  and to reduce the stigma associated with addiction.

CPE/AED Training

Every few years we offer CPE and AED training to lay leaders and congregants to help educate our population to be able to respond to emergency health needs in the community.
